It hasn't been unlocked, hacked, jailbreak-ed, etc; there's no need to put it into "recovery mode", and iTunes will still automatically launch and sync when iPhone is connected. You're simply mounting it and copying files to it, much the same way iTunes does to add music and such. Either way works, but this way your iPhone is in the same state at the end as it was in the beginning. You’re simply mounting it and copying files to it, much the same way iTunes does to add music and such.
